Stop Smoking

Have you made the decision that now is the time to stop smoking?

If you have decided that you are ready to stop smoking, cognitive hypnotherapy can give you the best chance of making it so.

What you get with my approach:

  • Bespoke treatment to work on the reason why you smoke
  • As many sessions as you need - not one expensive session and then you're on your own
  • No pressure to stop after the first session - you decide when you stop once you know you don't need to start again
  • Techniques to help with any cravings you might get
  • Inclusive CD of hypnotic suggestion to re-inforce the work we do during sessions.
  • Inclusive telephone, email or text support between sessions.

I treat smoking in a similar way to most other types of behaviour; that is treating the person and not the label. I find out why you smoke in the first place, and we work to clear the reason behind the behaviour. Once this is done, you might find you no longer feel a need to continue with that distructive behaviour. That's when you can be free to choose to stop - it may be at the first session, or it may be at a later date - but know that you are in control to make that decision.

So, I see clients at regular intervals for as long as they need to sort out their particular issues around smoking and thereby allow them to stop permanently. If it takes 2 sessions or 6 sessions to get to your desired outcome - it takes what it takes. In this way, I believe we can have the most positive effect which can be lasting. Either way, the chances are that by giving up smoking using my approach, you will be saving youself money in the long-term, as well as improving your health.

Once you give up smoking, within:

  • 20 minutes your pulse and blood pressure start to return to normal levels
  • 8 – 10 hours body oxygen levels return to normal
  • 2 – 3  days nicotine is eliminated completely from the body
  • 3 - 5 days breathing begins to feel easier
  • 2 - 8 months lung function improving
  • 5 years your risk of lung cancer drops significantly
  • 10 years your risk of lung cancer returns to normal.

But you've always known the benefits of quitting, haven't you? You don't need me to tell you them really, do you?

Just a word of caution. Some therapists will claim to be able to stop you from smoking in one (often expensive) session, and will quote success rates in the +90% range. It always makes me curious as to how they are meauring that success - is it if their client gives up smoking for a week, a month, a year, five years? And exactly who measures what is success? I would suggest that it is almost impossible to have an accurate success rate for quitting smoking because most therapists do not contact their ex-clients on a regular basis and ask if they are still not smoking. Because of this, I urge you to be very cautious of any therapist who makes these types of claims, and ask them exactly how they measure their success.

If my approach feels right for you to give up smoking now, contact me so that we can discuss your needs further. With your commitment and my guidance, you could be a non-smoker sooner than your might once have thought possible.
